More scrapbook updates! [Posted 02/03/2012 at 08:40 PM]

We had a few new scrapbook additions come in right after we did the last round, so we posted the new ones tonight. It's so fun to hear back about our kittens. And this time we have an update on one of our retired breeders as well.

What's new on our website [Posted 01/23/2012 at 09:04 PM]
We have been working a little here and there on our website, trying to get caught up with all the changes we want and need to make. So this is what's new so far and there will be more to come.

1. We "finally" posted our new breeders on our breeder page. I know we have been very slow in doing this. I have no excuses - well, actually I have a lot, but I won't use them :-). Anyway, you can see all our current breeders now.

2. We made a new retired breeder page, since our breeder page was getting a little full. We wanted people to still be able to see the breeding cats we started with, since they are the foundation for what we have now.

3. Scrapbook updates! We always love when people write to share pictures and stories about their Little Apple kittens. Thankfully, many of them agree to let us post their fun pictures and notes on our scrapbook. Take a look at our scrapbook to see some of the new entries. You will have to go back a few pages to see some of the updates!

4. When using our contact us form you will notice a new "phone number" box. We are highly recommending that people use this when contacting us. Occasionally email is not very reliable and it helps for me to have more than one way to contact you if you are looking for a kitten :-).

Leaps and bounds [Posted 01/16/2012 at 01:01 PM]
Almata's little ones are growing in leaps and bounds. I thought I would share a picture of them. Their eyes are starting to open and I love watching them crawl around mom. With their little round bellies it seems hardly possible that they would be able to move as fast as they do.

Lodi and Ida's kittens are running all over the house now. They have found the upstairs and are exploring the "new" places. It's a fun time!

New kittens [Posted 01/08/2012 at 10:01 PM]
Almata had her first litter of kittens very early this morning. Everyone is doing well :-).

Coming and going [Posted 01/06/2012 at 07:23 AM]

We are excited and a little sad to see Nova's kittens going to their new homes this weekend. We will miss them, but know their families will have so much fun with them. This "going" phase is always hard, but thankfully we have some more kittens coming! We are expecting Almata's first litter of kittens any day now. We are excited to see how many she has!

Ida and Lodi's kittens are coming and going all over the house now :-). It's fun to watch them exploring and learning new things.

Let it Snow! [Posted 12/19/2011 at 08:05 PM]
It is cold and snowy outside, but I'm enjoying staying inside by our fire cuddling with my little kittens. It's fun to lay down on the couch to read and have the whole group join me :-). Then when they start playing I have to put my book or whatever I'm working on down, so I can just enjoy watching them play. They are so funny! They climb under the blankets and attack each other while making funny noises. Or they find the long lost toy under the couch and go crazy chasing it around the room. They have also met their father Pippin and adore him. It's funny to watch them trailing behind him as he walks around the house, resembling very much a mother duck and her ducklings following in a row.

And we are excited to announce that we are getting ready very soon to introduce our youngest kittens! I can't believe they are 7 weeks old already. They are a fun bunch! We hope to have their pictures on our website before long.

Fun new things [Posted 12/11/2011 at 02:50 PM]
At this time of year we sometimes have people ask for ideas for new toys for their cats. So, this year we have tried a few and want to share our thoughts.
1. Ball of Furry Fury - Our cats love this toy! And I love it because it's too big to roll under the furniture and get lost. They roll it around and chase it...they lay down and stick their paws in to try to get the mouse. If it rolls a certain way a little mouse squeak sound is made and they love that. It's definitely worth the money!
2. LED Motion activated ball - Despite the negative reviews on amazon, our cats love this ball. It is heavy and it is small enough to go under furniture, so it did get lost under the couch for a while...but since it's light is motion activated we were able to find it by walking by the couch and noticing the lights. It's not too pricey so it might be fun for you to try if you are looking for something new.
3. Mouse Hunter - This toy is a big hit! I have found them playing with it under the Christmas tree and in the bathroom. This toy gets around in other words :-).

Some "Oldies but Goodies" -
1. Cheese Chase - This is by far one of the favorite toys all time! Even our adult cats play with them a lot. If you don't have one, it is a great investment!
2. Mylar Balls - Another huge favorite! They do get lost under furniture, so we would recommend getting more than one.

Going where none of them have gone before.... [Posted 11/27/2011 at 05:52 AM]
Ida Red and Lodi's kittens have started their exploration outside of their nests! It is so fun to see them taking their first strolls around the room. They are all super sweet kittens, purring when I pet them. Lodi's kittens seem to not be able to stand up while I pet them, they all end up rolling over on to their backs so I can pet their stomachs :-). All the kittens are starting to find me when I come into the room too. I will sit down on the floor and pretty soon they will come walking up to me. It's fun to start to learn about them and to see their personalities coming out!

Nova and Dora's kittens continue to grow and learn about their surroundings. It never fails to amaze me how much fun they can have with simple and ordinary objects (like a little tuft of fur on the floor or a spot on the wall!). They also love to chase each other around and it's fun to watch them flip and cartwheel across the room. I can't believe some of the tumbling they do...it's graceful and impossible looking all at the same time :-). We have about a month left with these two litters and I'm enjoying every last minute!

Best way to spend an hour! [Posted 11/20/2011 at 03:29 PM]

I spent an hour today in one of the best ways. Nova's kittens were crawling all over me, all six of them at once. They were diving through my legs to crawl out the other side, playing hide and seek under my legs, laying on my lap looking up at me...it was great! I will never get tired of being on the bottom of a Ragdoll pile ;-).

Introducing Dora and Nova's kittens [Posted 11/15/2011 at 07:16 PM]
We recently posted two new litters of kittens on our kitten page. It's so fun to show pictures of them after telling stories about them for a couple months. Each kitten is such a joy and each has it's own little personality.

Dora's kittens have recently found our bed and I get little kitten massages in the morning (ie - kittens running across my back). They are a fun alarm :-) and have been very good about not waking me up before it's time.

Nova's kittens are super sweet. We love snuggle time with them. I can't wait until they are exploring more of the house and make it up into our living room and bedroom for tv and bedtime snuggles.

Lodi and Ida's kittens are almost the same age (only 3 days apart) and so it's fun to watch them hitting their milestones together. Their eyes have started to open and they are wondering around in their nests more. We are even hearing little purrs when we pet them. It's so fun!

We hope soon to add some of our new breeders to our breeder page, so check back to see updated pictures of our new queens and king. Also, we have some scrapbook updates we are working on. I will make sure to post another update on our blog when everything is done.

More kittens! [Posted 11/05/2011 at 11:18 AM]

We have another new litter of kittens. Lodi had her first litter of kittens Wednesday, November 2nd. Thankfully she had them during the day! I love it when they do that :-). So with Lodi's kittens and Ida's new litter we have lots of little ones to care for right now. It's a busy time!

We also are introducing Dora's kittens for the first time. We have talked about them and now you can see them and learn about their personalities by going to our kitten page. They are a beautiful bunch of little apples!

Ida Red's First Kittens [Posted 10/30/2011 at 03:09 PM]
Ida Red had her first litter of kittens early this morning. She is doing very well. We are excited to see what our first litter from a tortie girl has as far as colors. She has a wide variety of possibilities, including red males, tortie females, and all the other colors.

Dakota Gold is retiring [Posted 10/23/2011 at 09:51 AM]
Dakota our beautiful red point male is retiring. He has had some wonderful kittens for us throughout the years and we are so glad to have had him as one of our foundation studs. Unfortunately he could not produce any blue babies, so we are needing to move to a new boy that can do that for us. He is wonderfully gentle and loves nothing more than to cuddle up next to us and purr - that is unless you count rolling over to have his tummy rubbed! He is a total lap cat and will sit on your lap through a whole movie without getting down. He has gorgeous blue eyes and he gets along with everyone he meets. We think he is the best! He will fit in well with any family, but would probably prefer a quiet home with another cat or two to socialize with. He has not had very much experience with children and no experience with dogs, but his personality is such that we are sure he would adjust eventually if you are willing to be patient with him. For more pictures and adoption information see our retiring breeder page.

Ready, set - going home! [Posted 10/14/2011 at 12:27 PM]
Bailey's kittens are heading to their new homes next week. They are so cuddly. I've had all 5 of them wanting to sit on my lap at once...and they all are begging for kisses lately. It's very sweet. We will miss them when they go, but are so excited for their new families to finally meet them.

Dora's kittens are almost litter trained, so hopefully they will start running the house soon. They are super sweet and floppy kittens. They run up to me when I go into their room and they beg me to sit down so they can climb on my lap and snuggle. We have 6 little girls and one boy in the litter and we hope to introduce them with pictures and descriptions on our kitten page in a couple of weeks.

Nova's kittens are just starting to crawl out of the nest. They are already wanting to be involved in everything I'm doing, whether it's sweeping or filling the food bowl. It's funny to see them moving around so fast, since their legs seem barely long enough to keep their bellies off the floor :-). We have some super social and cuddly kittens in this bunch.

Full house [Posted 10/02/2011 at 10:03 AM]
We have a full house here at Little Apple this October! It's fun to have a bunch of little ones all at different stages.

Bailey's kittens are about 12 weeks old and in full kitten play mode. We are enjoying their funny ways! Everything is a game to them - even picture taking time. They want to play with the camera, play with the afghan (they bite the little balls - see below), and play with anything that comes their way (a tail passing by perhaps!). It is a lot of fun.

Dora's kittens are about 3 weeks old now and so sweet! They are running around their room now and exploring everything. They are already playing with the broom when I sweep and begging me to sit down so they can climb on my lap. They just started to eat solid food and soon will start litter training!

Nova's kittens are about 1 week old now and so tiny compared to our other kittens (even though they are big for their age). Their eyes are not yet open, but they are already interacting with me. When I lay down with my head in their nest they come up to me and they purr when I pet them. Several of them love to lay on their back with their stomachs fully exposed while they are sleeping...it is so adorable!

Nova's first litter of kittens has arrived! [Posted 09/24/2011 at 03:51 PM]
Very early in the morning (1am to be exact) on Friday, September 23rd, we welcomed our first Nova kitten into our home. Nova is one of our new breeders and we are excited to have kittens by her and Pippin. I was a little worn out from being up all night, so I forgot to post a blog yesterday announcing them. Staying up until 6am is a little hard on me ;-). It was worth it though! All the kittens are doing well and Nova looks like a pro. She is very caring and was a great mother right from the start.

New Scrapbook entries! [Posted 09/18/2011 at 11:43 AM]

We have had several people write us recently to share pictures and stories about their Little Apple kittens. It's fun to see pictures of the kittens in their new homes, some of them all grown up even. Take a look at our scrapbook to see some of the new entries. You will have to go back to page 2 and 4 to see a couple of them (Merlin and Norland). Thank you to all that have shared pictures and stories with us over the years!

Dora has kittens [Posted 09/07/2011 at 04:54 PM]
Dora's kittens were born yesterday! Mom and kittens are all doing very well. It's fun to have tiny kittens in our home again. I love looking at their tiny feet and watching them as they sleep and eat, since that's about all they do right now ;-). Dora is so happy I can hear her purring from across the room. She is such a good mother.

Little Apple Pink Pearl is Retiring [Posted 08/31/2011 at 09:24 AM]
Pink Pearl is a beautiful 2 year old seal lynx bicolor female that we raised up as a kitten from Emma and Crispin to be a breeder here at Little Apple. She produced some beautiful and wonderful kittens for us and we don't really want to retire her. Unfortunately, she did not produce enough milk to feed her kittens which isn't good for a mother, so we are regretfully doing just that. She has bursts of energy where she is very playful which is fun to watch. She loves cat nip toys and the scratching posts (we even find her sleeping curled up around it). She also loves to watch the birds out the window. And whenever we get a box, she is sure to come and play in it! Her favorite place to sleep is on the highest shelf of the cat tree and she also likes to sleep with us at night. She is very social and wants to be in the same room as us. She is a very beautiful girl with one of the biggest, fluffiest tails. She also has one of the softest coats. We think Pink Pearl will do well in a home with other animals or a home with children. As an adult she will need a little longer adjustment period than our kittens to a new home environment, but she has always adjusted well to the other animals she meets in our homes and has done well when children come to visit. She has had her annual exam and her spay surgery, so she will not need any health care for another year. Let us know if you are interested in adding Pink Pearl to your family!

Kitten fun [Posted 08/26/2011 at 04:52 PM]

I am really enjoying Bailey's kittens. They are playful, fun, silly, and constantly make me laugh. They run up to me when I come in their room and they want to play and be involved in whatever I'm doing at the time. It's so fun to have kittens helping me sweep again :-). They all love to be held and just lay back in my arms like it's the most wonderful thing. They all purr - loudly - when I pet them. I can't wait until they are running the whole house. Just a few more days!

Introducing Bailey's kittens [Posted 08/19/2011 at 06:47 PM]

We have pictures of Bailey and Pippin's kittens born July 6th, 2011 on our website, along with a little description of each. They are a beautiful group! And so super sweet! We hope you enjoy seeing them and reading about them :-).

Home Again [Posted 08/14/2011 at 10:37 AM]

It was very refreshing to have a trip away from home these last couple weeks. It helps to know that our cats and kittens are being well taken care of by my mom and sister. We were able to escape the heat of Kansas for a little bit and head to the mountains. It was beautiful and cool. We enjoyed our backpacking trips, camping, and hiking. But as always, I was glad to get home again.

Bailey's kittens grew a lot while I was gone. They were barely toddlers when I left - walking around on wobbling legs. Now they are running all over the room. Their personalities are starting to come out and I love going in to just watch them play. It will take me a few more days to feel like I really know them well, but already I can tell that we have a playful and cuddly group.

Little Apple Update [Posted 07/27/2011 at 10:11 PM]
It has been a little crazy since I last wrote a blog. We have been busy with house projects, baby kittens, older kittens going home, and all the other things life throws in :-).

The cats love house projects. All the furniture covered with sheets while we are painting makes everything more fun! They hide under them, play around them, roll up in them. I never knew sheets could be so entertaining ;-)...or at least I forgot how entertaining they could be. I used to love making sheet forts when I was a kid! Anyway, it has been fun to watch them enjoying the new playground.

Almost all our older kittens have departed for their new homes. This is hard for me every time. I always have the feeling that my house is empty. I miss them playing around my feet while I sit at the computer. I miss them joining me in the bathroom while I'm getting ready in the morning. I miss them helping me clean and helping me cook. And I miss them joining me for cuddles at night or when I sit down on the couch. I'm always glad, though, to hear that their new families are enjoying them :-).

Bailey's little ones are growing and starting to play. It's so fun to see them wobbling around the nest, trying to figure out how to walk and attack each other. We had two of the kittens hit 1 pound before they were even 3 weeks old, so these kittens are huge!

Scrapbook Updates [Posted 07/13/2011 at 02:17 PM]

We recently updated our scrapbook, adding several new letters from our kitten owners and lots of new pictures. It is always fun to see pictures of our kittens in their new homes and hear how they are doing. And we especially love seeing what they look like as they mature into adults. Thank you to everyone that has shared these pictures with us and given us permission to post them on our website!

Introducing LittleApple Ida Red [Posted 07/09/2011 at 01:03 PM]

Ida was born here at Little Apple and from the moment her tortie colorings started to come in, we knew we were going to keep her. She is a seal tortie mitted girl and her face is split right down the middle (half seal, half red). This is very unusual. Everyone that sees her comments on her markings and how beautiful she is. She is a Sweet Gala and Dakota daughter. She is going to be a big girl, with her mother's playfulness and her father's purr. She is a beautiful and sweet girl, it's going to be fun to see her kittens later this year.
